Joan Wilson-Bent September 27, 1959 - February 18, 2025

In Loving Memory of Joan “Mama Joan” Wilson-Bent
September 27, 1959 – February 18, 2025
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Joan “Mama Joan” Wilson-Bent, who left us peacefully on February 18, 2025, at the age of 65. Joan was born in Burnt Ground, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to the late Archibald Wilson and Esther Farquharson on September 27, 1959.
Joan was married to the love of her life, Woodford Bent, in 1995, after being together for 18 years prior to that. Together, they built a strong and loving family that brought joy to her life. She was the proud mother of three children—Nicole, Melisa, and Ceary—and the cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Known for her generosity, kindness, sense of humor, and strong work ethic, Joan touched the lives of everyone she met. Throughout her life, she worked tirelessly as a seamstress, nanny, janitor, and, most importantly, as a cook—a role that brought her great passion and joy. Her love and care were evident in everything she did, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Woodford Bent; her children, Nicole, Melisa, and Ceary; her grandchildren and great-grandchild; her siblings Pansy Heslop, Dannet Wilson-Sands, Angella Hylton, Keila Wilson-Campbell, Janet Allen, Junior Wilson, Morris Wilson, Andy Wilson, Clive Horrell, Earl Allen, Geneve Horrell, and Linval Wilson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Genearchibald Wilson, Everton Wilson, and Lionel Wilson.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, March 1st, 2025, at 4:00 PM at St. George’s Anglican Church, 64 Courts Road, George Town. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s memory to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.
Mama Joan’s love, warmth, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
