Darryl Myers M.A. (Oxon.)
1939-2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darryl Myers, a distinguished
Attorney-at-Law in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Darryl left us unexpectedly on September 28, 2024, at the age of 85 in Miami, Florida, where he was receiving medical care.
Darryl was born on 26th March 1939 in Jamaica. His parents were Frank Myers and
Elaine Myers (nee Brandon). His father was also an esteemed Attorney-at-Law of the
Jamaica law firm Myers Fletcher & Gordon. Darryl attended Munro College and
Jamaica College before joining Exeter College, Oxford, England, where he obtained a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Jurisprudence in 1960 and some years later becoming a Master of Arts. He was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Jamaica in 1963, beginning a remarkable career that would touch many lives.
Darryl found his soulmate in Angela Lord, marrying her in Jamaica on April 4, 1964. Together, they built a loving family, welcoming two wonderful daughters, Michelle MacIntosh and Melanie Myers-Khouri, who brought immeasurable joy to their lives.
He practised Law in Jamaica as a partner in Myers Fletcher & Gordon until 1973 when he joined the Tax Consultancy firm of Ashenheim & Myers, which later became Ashenheim, Myers & McDonald. He later emigrated to the Cayman Islands in 1978 where he was admitted to practise in the Grand Court and joined James MacDonald in the partnership of MacDonald Myers & Co. The firm later became MacDonald Myers & Alberga when Michael Alberga, Attorney-at-Law, joined in 1980 and subsequently became Myers & Alberga when James MacDonald retired. A few years later, Bryan Ashenheim, Attorney-at-Law, joined the firm and together they built a successful law practice. After officially retiring as a partner of Myers & Alberga on 31st March 2008, Darryl remained a steadfast presence as a Consultant in the firm now known as Travers Thorp Alberga, where his daughter Melanie continues his legacy as a partner.
The attorneys and staff of the Firm revered Darryl and many continued to cherish close relationships with him long after leaving the Firm. His genuine, warm and witty character created deep bonds that withstood the test of time. His passing is deeply felt by his loyal secretary of over 30 years, Elva Smith and the staff who worked closely with him. They fondly recall his candid humour, his musings, and, of course, his weekly treats reserved for a select few - moments that brought joy to their workdays and highlighted the personal connection Darryl maintained with those around him.
Darryl is survived and profoundly missed by his wife Angela, his daughters Michelle and Melanie, his cherished grandchildren Madison and Amanda MacIntosh and Jessica Khouri, and son-in-Law, David Khouri.
Darryl touched the lives of so many and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
The memorial service for Darryl Myers will be held on December 7 at 2pm at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, as we honor a truly remarkable man who leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, love, and compassion.
