JC, it seems as though you have come from a long line of American patriots. And that you are a descendent of the 7th Vice President of the US. I found this tribute to your father John Calhoun’s Obituary

CALHOUN-Dr. John C. passed away on January 8, 2007 in his 90th year. Born November 2, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of John and Alice Calhoun. He was educated at Boys High in Brooklyn, NY, The University of Utah, and Long Island College of Medicine. John served honorably as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He practiced medicine for a rewarding 50 years in many locales, including Westbury, NY and Rancho Bernardo, CA. He was the faithful husband of Dorothea Calhoun and the loving father of six children. The story between the lines, known by his family and closest friends, is that he was a child of the Great Depression, and as such worked hard to achieve success in life and love despite difficult circumstances. He felt that marrying Dottie, a nurse he worked with, and “the girl who saved my life” was the most important decision he ever made. John was a stern disciplinarian, and a staunch ethical conservative who lived for his family. His example of giving everything his best effort, and never wanting to waste time or resources has been engrained in his children. His love of life, rich sense of humor and wonderful bedside manner made him a larger than life figure to all who knew him. John follows his beloved children Michael and Melissa to his Heavenly reward, though in spirit he remains here with all who love him. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 12th at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poway.

It’s obvious on this plane of life’s energy that you, JC, were truly an elevated soul who was most compassionate. I can attest to that when I was in need of help and support, you were there unconditionally.

I truly wish that I had made the time for us to know each other better. You were much more than an icon and friend. You were a majestic human being with much more to share than meets the eye. You held your prowess beneath the surface and lived a life in humility. God bless all of us for having the privilege of knowing you!
